A wonderful component of the HCG Goddess Protocol is the elimination of toxins via fat cell release. Therefore, it makes sense to reduce the amount of toxins we are putting in during this time not only what we eat, but what we put on our skin.
The protocol is a perfect time to make a decision towards paring down your beauty routine and moving towards more natural skin care, however I find most are not suitable on protocol due to the oils used.
Skin care products with fats, oils, butters, creams and ointments can be absorbed and interfere with weight reduction just as if they have been eaten. This sensitivity to very minor increases in nutritional intake is a unique feature of the protocol. Anyone who handles fats, such as hairdressers, massage therapists, butchers, etc. never show a satisfactory loss of weight unless they can avoid fat coming into contact with their skin.
No oils are allowed to penetrate the skin. Whether it be via creams, lotions, makeup. No creams, lotions, sun-tan lotions may be used unless they are oil-free. Make sure to check any lotions or sunscreens for fats and oils before you use them. Lotions that are entirely free of fatty substances may be used with caution.
Check all labels to ensure they state oil-free. Herbal extracts such as Aloe Vera, Tea Tree, Sandalwood, Turmeric, Chamomile, Cucumber, Green Tea and Lavender extracts, which are oil free and moisturize and tone your skin naturally are allowed.
Wear gloves when cooking with oil and fats for family members.
Makeup must also be changed. Only Mineral based powder and oil free foundation can be used. Mascara, lipstick and pencils are all okay. It does not have to be expensive. There are plenty of oil-free formulations available or you can choose to go without. By Week 2 of the plan, your skin will be glowing so most go without anyway.
Another change to skincare is changing deodorant and toothpaste. Both Mineral and Crystal deodorant are safe.
Possible acne breakouts
It is possible to have acne outbreaks while on the protocol. Our fat cells are storage for everything, from vitamins and minerals to toxins. If you have an acne flare-up or rash occur during the diet, it is most likely your body’s way of excreting toxins. Our skin is a large detox organ, and when there are too many toxins for the liver to handle efficiently, then the skin will step in and excrete some of those toxins as well.
Most shampoo and conditioners are fine. If your conditioner has oils in it, you may either switch conditioners, or use the one you have as long as you rinse it out quickly after putting it on your hair. Do not let it sit on your hair and do not massage into your scalp.
By minimising the oils and toxins going in, we maximise the benefits and fat loss during the weight loss phase of the plan.
